Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study is to compare clearance quantities after and before reciprocation motions to examine the clearance efficiency of surface plaque with toothpaste, using an interdental brush as a reasonable dental sanitary control.

Methods: After making a standard jaw plate model of extracted anterior and posterior teeth, installing an interdental brush on the automatic reciprocating motion machine, coating the part near teeth with artificial surface plague, and 3 and 6 times of reciprocating operations using artificial saliva, tooth paste, and interdental gel.

Results: The dental plague clearance on artificial surface by the repeat count of interdental brush usage was higher in the case of 6 times than in the case of 3 times (p£¼0.01). The dental plague clearance on interdental artificial surface for anterior teeth had no significant difference, but it was higher for interdental gel than for artificial saliva and tooth paste on the distal surface in the case of 3 times (p£¼0.05). The dental plague clearance on interdental artificial surface for posterior teeth was higher for interdental gel than for artificial saliva and tooth paste (p£¼0.01).

Conclusion: The usage of interdental gel was recommended for interdental space of anterior and posterior teeth when interdental brush was used for the reasonable and efficient dental hygiene control.
